It is hard to focus purely on the horse when the rider is so intrinsically linked to the story. For The Offer, the story which evolved in the late Autumn Carnival of 2014 went beyond the wins and what was left on the track, it was as much a story about Tommy Berry living out the dreams of his late brother Nathan. The Offer, an Irish stayer, lined up for the first time with new rider Tommy Berry in the Manion Cup (G3). It was the first of three wins for the duo, and would prove to be a special partnership with The Offer delivering Tommy his first win since the passing of his brother when they saluted in the Chairman’s Handicap (G2) on day one of The Championships. Heading into the Sydney Cup, The Offer and Tommy had the country behind them as they started favourites. With a blessed ride, The Offer pulled ahead in the straight to take the Sydney Cup (G1) by almost four lengths.
