The Provincial Championship Final – Royal Randwick

Newcastle trainer Kris Lees took full advantage of having eight runners in the field by finishing first and second in the $400,000 Provincial Championships Final at Royal Randwick in 2016.
Lees admitted he was cheering home Powerline as he took two-length lead at the 200-metre mark, but Damien Oliver hooked out Danish Twist and she exploded over the closing stages to nab her stablemate on the line.

Wyong - Provincial Championships Qualifier

Noble Joey was the first horse to book a place in the Provincial Championships finals with an effortless win in the Wyong heat. Kathy O’Hara took the four-year-old gelding to the front and never looked back, leading all the way to claim victory for Kembla Grange trainers, Robert and Luke Price. Well-backed runners Better Not Blue and Princess Posh finished 2nd and 3rd respectively and will also line up in the $400,000 final at Randwick.

Kembla Grange – Bede Murray Provincial Championships Qualifier

Twelve months on from an unsuccessful Provincial Championships Final, Unequivocal backed her trainer’s claim that she was a better horse this time around by winning Kembla Grange’s Qualifier on Friday 11 March.

Astute trainer Kim Waugh booked her third runner in the $400,000 Provincial Championship Final at Royal Randwick when Hetty Heights stormed down the outside to win the Newcastle qualifier at Wyong .
The $100,000 contest was held at Wyong after the planned Newcastle meeting was called off due to the state of the track.

Gosford - Provincial Championships Qualifier

Trainer Kris Lees will stack the $400,000 Provincial Championships Final with six runners after Zestful and Powerline qualified at Gosford.
Zestful took out $100,000 Provincial Championships Gosford heat over 1200m by a half length from In Her Time.
Lees has already qualified Danish Twist, Electric Power, Marple Miss and Parraay for the rich Randwick race. It is a tremendous achievement by the champion Newcastle trainer to qualify six starter for the elite 15-horse field — but he isn’t finished just yet.

Hawkesbury - Provincial Championships Qualifier

The final spots for the 2016 Provincial Championships Final were decided at Hawkesbury when Rustic Melody came with a well-timed run giving trainer Kris Lees his eight qualifier. The result for Broadmeadow-based Lees means he will have over half the field when 15 runners line-up at Randwick on day two of The Championships for the final.
