Sydney Swans Nick Davis Leads Them Home In TAB Champion Tipster

By Mark Brassel

Former outstanding Sydney Swans AFL player Nick Davis is TAB Champion Tipster for 2017.

Davis took a throttle hold of the competition right from the outset when he was the sole celebrity tipster to select Free Standing ($38.80 on NSW TAB) in the Country Championships Final on The Championships Day 1.

Davis also tipped Darley TJ Smith Stakes winner Chautauqua ($6.30) and James Boag’s Premium Australian Oaks winner, Bonneval ($3.90) on Day 2 to set up a huge lead on his 26 rivals.

Davis finished with a balance of $677 after the TAB hypothetically placed $10 each-way bets (on NSW TAB) across 12 races during the two days of The Championships, the Grand Finals of horse racing in Australia.

Russell Barwick from Fox Sports was runner-up on $314.40 with Daniel Sankey (The Australian) finishing third with $274.40.

Now a Swans development officer, Davis played 168 AFL games with Sydney Swans and Collingwood and was instrumental in the Swans getting to the 2005 Grand Final where they eventually defeated West Coast Eagles.

Davis won $5000 for his charity YNOT Help Foundation, a charity that provides much-needed support, care and assistance to families experiencing financial difficulties as a consequence of tragedy or life-threatening illnesses.

“I am over the moon to have won the $5000 for a charity that is close to my heart,” Davis said. “I’ve always been a racing fanatic so I was closely watching my selections and could not believe I got off to such a fantastic start.

“I must thank TAB and Racing NSW for this initiative as its great fun to watch how all the tipsters perform and in the end a significant donation goes to a worthwhile charity.”
