About
Since riding his first winner in 1996 at Wellington, NSW, Hugh Bowman has become one of Australia’s premier jockeys. With more than 25 Group One winners, Bowman’s career in the saddle began through pony clubs and polocrosse.
His move to Sydney in 1997 under the stewardship of legendary jockey Ron Quinton kicked off his rise to the top echelon of Australia's jockeys. His first Group One win was aboard Defier in the 2004 Doomben Cup. Bowman has since made his name as a fine rider of stayers, having claimed nine Derby or Oaks victories including the ATC Derby in 2014 aboard Criterion.
Claiming Sydney jockeys' premierships in season 2008/09 (60 winners) and the State premiership in 2011/12 (93.5 winners), his on-track rivalry with Nash Rawiller delivered some tooth and nail battles for those titles.
Hugh Bowman achieved nine Group one wins in the 2014/15 season and has established himself as a world leading jockey with recent successful stint in Japan. Hugh Bowman finally claim one of the big weight for age events last spring, leading superstar mare Winx to victory in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
