About

A hit-and-run raid on Sydney from his home in Foxton, New Zealand in 1998 proved the forerunner to Kiwi horseman Chris Waller making a full-time move to Australia.

Chris began his career with horses back in Foxton with trainer Paddy Busuttin. He was travelling foreman for Busuttin and had an association with stable veteran Castletown who finished third in the 1992 Melbourne Cup behind Subzero. Chris took over Busuttin’s Foxton stables when the trainer took up a Singapore training contract.

He brought one horse to Sydney for his first attack – Party Belle – and they went home a winner. Following that Chris made more frequent trips to Sydney where he stayed at Rosehill before eventually making the move permanent.

Having started with a small team of four horses when granted stables at Rosehill, Chris recently claimed his fourth successive Sydney training premiership. In the autumn of 2008 Waller prepared his first Group One winner when Triple Honour rocketed to victory in the Doncaster Handicap.

Since then Chris has made Sydney Group 1 mile racing his own, with a total of five Doncaster Handicap wins (including training an historic first four in the 2014 edition), triple back-to-back Epsom Handicap wins in 2013,2014 & 2015, three George Main Stakes victories and consecutive wins in the last four runnings of the Chipping Norton Stakes.

Now firmly entrenched at the top of the Sydney Trainers’ premiership, Chris is a regular at the major carnivals and yearling sales around Australia as well as venturing to the UK to purchase tried horses.
