About
Master Kiwi trainer Murray Baker has not only trained plenty of major winners in New Zealand, he boasts Group One winners in NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.
Arguably New Zealands finest trainer, Murray has had particular success with staying three-year-olds and won the 3yo Triple Crown in Sydney with the outstanding It’s a Dundeel, who returned last year to take out the feature race of The Championships - the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Murray also won the Group One Victoria Derby (by 6.5 lengths) and Group One Underwood Stakes with the ill-fated Lion Tamer.
The Champion New Zealand Trainer would return to The Championships with boom colt Mongolian Khan and win the BMW Australian Derby. The following spring the same entire would go on to win the Caulfield Cup before tragically colic forced a late scratching from the Melbourne Cup.
Murray’s son Bjorn is one of the rising stars among Sydney trainers after setting up at Warwick Farm.
