The Championships Trophy

The magnificent trophies for The Championships were styled and created by Nicola Cerrone, of Sydney’s leading jeweller Cerrone.’

The latest design was unveiled at Cerrone’s glamorous Martin Place showroom in 2015, which featured enhancements to provide a more stylised and symbolic trophy.  The striking black rhodium-plated horse’s head, encrusted with dazzling emeralds and featuring pave-set black diamonds in the horse’s mane, and white diamonds in the eyes is now presented in an elegant aluminium horse-shoe design, reflecting the ‘C’ of The Championships.

The use of emeralds is inspired by Sydney having been known as ‘The Emerald City’.  This connotation was used to describe Sydney in the classic book and later movie, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and was used by famous Australian playwright David Williamson for his 1987 play about Sydney entitled ‘The Emerald City’.

Precision crafted and hand finished by Master Jewellers from Cerrone, each trophy is one of a limited set of 12 presented to the winning owner of each of The Championships winners, with a smaller replica presented to each winning trainer and jockey. Each trophy is housed in a Cerrone wooden hinged presentation case lined with purple velvet.
